  • Its story...

This rug has been hand woven by Aymara´s women of the Altiplano of Peru and Bolivia, according to processes that have been told from generation to generation.

The wool is carded, spun, washed and dyed in the community. The dyes used, which come from the Andes mountains, are totally natural and respectful with the environment. Fixing the colors is a slow and ecological process carried out with mineral salts from the salt flats of Maras, in the Sacred Valley.

Each rug is unique and tells a story. Colors and patterns are seasonal and have complex indigenous meanings that take weeks to weave. They are woven on portable wooden looms manufactured by them. It is common to see them weaving while tending livestock.

These products are created in remote villages, with enough time and patience unusual in our society.

Some decorators include them within the current trends of "slow life" and "wabisabi" decoration as they may contain imperfections typical of manual work that give them greater authenticity and character.

We travel to the Altiplano to work directly with local artisans, paying a fair price that allows the development of local communities while maintaining their traditions and culture.

They are ideal to bring color and warmth to the living room or bedroom. They are also used as blankets, tapestries or furniture decoration combined with our cushions.
