  • Its story...

Rug made by Aymara women from the highlands of Peru and Bolivia according to methods that have been passed from generation to generation.

Each women cards, spins, washes and dyes wool. The dyes used, which come from the Andes mountains, are totally biodegradable and environmentally friendly. The fixation is through salts collected by the locals in the nearby salt flats.

Each rug is unique and tells its story. The colours and drawings depend on the season and have complex indigenous meanings that take months to weave them.

They are woven into portable wooden looms that they manufacture themselves and it is usual to see them weaving while they take care of the cattle.

These products are created in remote villages, with enough time and patience unusual in our society.

Some decorators include them within the current trends of “slow life” and “wabisabi” decoration as they may contain imperfections typical of manual work that give them greater authenticity and character.

We travel to the Altiplano to work directly with local artisans, paying a fair price that allows the development of local communities while maintaining their traditions and culture.

They are ideal for bringing colour and warmth to the living room or bedroom. They are also used as blankets, tapestries or furniture decoration combined with our cushions.
